Terry has dedicated his life to fighting for those in need, improving our legal system, and strengthening our courts to better serve New Yorkers. As our Civil Court Judge, Terry will dispense justice with fairness, integrity, and compassion.
Born and raised in a working-class neighborhood in Queens to a teacher and an accountant, public service has always been a part of Terry’s life. Terry’s parents always encouraged academic excellence, and after his time at Regis High School on the Upper East Side, Terry went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his law degree from Fordham Law School. Terry participated in Moot Court competitions during his time at Fordham and is proud to be honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Fordham Moot Court Alumni Association.
After law school, Terry spent time as a law clerk for the Honorable Bernard Newman in the United States Court of International Trade. He then went on to work at Proskauer Rose LLP and Mayer Brown LLP, two leading national law firms. Currently, Terry is a partner in the litigation department at Mintz & Gold LLP, where he practices complex commercial litigation.
As a Civil Court Judge, Terry will bring to the bench over 25 years of legal experience spanning multiple practice areas including commercial litigation, securities transactions, and arbitration. Terry’s experience allowed him the opportunity to represent clients on cutting-edge issues in complex litigation but he has also worked on matters of interest to people in our community.
In addition to his professional experience, Terry has also served as a pro bono arbitrator in NY Small Claims Court, helping consumers and small businesses come to speedy and fair dispute resolutions. With his years of experience as a litigator and arbitrator, Terry is keenly aware of the challenges faced by everyday New Yorkers.
For his Civil Court candidacy, Terry was rated “Highly Qualified” by the New York County Democratic Independent Judicial Screening Panel. Terry’s commitment to our community extends beyond his role in our legal system. For years, Terry has volunteered for homeless New Yorkers at shelters in churches on the East Side. He is a member of the NYC Bar Association, the LGBT Bar Association, and the Irish American Bar Association of New York. He currently resides on the East Side of Manhattan.
